Master percussionist Ray Pereira and Saxophone virtuoso Julien Wilson formed THE MOUTH to explore new original music influenced by the rhythms of Cuba, West Africa and Sri Lanka.

The compositions of the group use rarely heard rhythms as a basis for these compositions, where the saxophone and guitar weave harmony and melody around the intricate polyrhythms created by the band. Robbie Belchamber plays guitar, Quinn Knight drums and Ash Howell electric bass . This is music for both your head and your feet.

TONGUE & TOOTH COLLECTIVE

The Tongue and Tooth Collective is a new group that features Cuban percussionist Juan Carlos Allende, Sax player Julien Wilson, guitarist Theo Carbo, Drummer/Percussionist Lucky Pereira, Keyboard Player Brett Williams and Percussionist Ray Pereira.

This new collective uses a fresh approach to improvisation and groove and plays a repertoire of of new original music weaving melody and harmony around interlocking and polyrhythmic Bata, Conga and Djembe rhythms.

The group has played several sell out shows at iconic Melbourne Venue The Jazz Lab and will be recording later this year.

Aboubacar is from Mali and we play a repertoire of Aboubacar’s original songs but with a Melbourne twist.

Aboubacar sings and plays Guitar and Ngoni. George plays Accordion, mark is on Bass and Quinn Knight will be our guest on Calabash Gourd.
